Restaurant Review: Novu

Quite a lengthy review

I’ve been to Novu quite a few times before and I’ve loved the experience at the Gulberg branch, so I had my expectations pretty high when my cousins and I decided to have dinner at the Y-block branch with our families. Maybe it was just a bad day to visit? I have no idea, but let’s just say my experience wasn’t as great as I had expected it to be.

Hot and Sour soup

Their appetizers were great, which I’m glad about because the starters were one of the main reasons why Novu’s been one of my favoured restaurants; I had a serving of hot and sour soup, honey glazed wings (yummy) and dynamite shrimps. They were absolutely delicious. This was followed by a break before the serving of the main courses, in which my cousins and I rambled about miscellaneous topics.

Now, I don’t know what happened, but everyone started coughing (including me) all of a sudden, and our eyes started watering because apparently their ventilation system wasn’t working; the branch was pretty small and the kitchen was just a floor down and so all of the smoke ended up rising to where we were sitting. This was pretty hectic because it got unbearable to the point where my cousins and I had to step out with the kids while our parents sat inside.

The waiters apologized for the inconvenience and tried to get the Air Conditioners working and within around fifteen to twenty minutes, we were back inside and it wasn’t as bad as before. The main courses were served and I helped myself to egg-fried rice and chicken chili dry, and honestly I was pretty disappointed because the chicken was pretty hard in my mouth and I couldn’t really taste anything except for a messy mixture of spices.

The Rating

The waiters tried to accommodate us as much as they could, so no complaints there, I guess it just wasn’t a good day lol. I won’t be very harsh with the rating because the starters were still pretty good and the interior was nice, so perhaps a 6/10?
